How to activate licenses in Windows/Unix/Linux using Hydra?

Activating Licenses manually in Windows

Example license:
<————– Start of License Data ———->
runtime5:qx_rt.r4_nt;1234-5
<————– End of License Data ———->
The information in the ‘start of license data’ and ‘end of license data’ tags are what you need to activate your product.

  1. Start ‘HydraStudio’.
  2. Select the ‘Tools’ menu and select the new license wizard.
  3. You will be asked for the license serial number, in this case it is 1234, as taken from the above information.
  4. On the next screen you will be asked to select which database(s) you have a license for.
  5. On the following screen you will be asked to enter the runtime count, in this case it is 5, again taken from the data between the start and end tags.
  6. Now you will be asked if you would like to activate the license automatically (this can only be done if the machine has an internet connection and if a firewall is not blocking the port that will be used to activate the license). If you click no you will be asked if you would like to create a license file. This method is the alternative to automatic activation, you will be asked for a location to save a license activation request file. This file should either be sent to support@querix.comor the contents of the file (be careful not to change the formatting of the information within the file) sent to new-license@querix.com which is our automatic license activation service. You will receive an email back containing license activation data. To activate your license you will need to:
NOTE: the activation data is an 8 letter code after the ‘:’ in the license string

<————– Start of License Data ———->
runtime5:qx_rt.r4_nt;1234-5:abcdefgh
<————– End of License Data ———->

  1. Start ‘HydraStudio’.
  2. Select the ‘Tools’ menu and select manage existing licenses.
  3. Select the license you want to activate and click ‘action’ menu and select activate.
  4. A small dialog box will appear with a box for you to enter the activation code, in this case abcdefgh.
  5. You will now see that it will say ‘active’ next to the license you have just activated.

Activate Licenses manually for Unix/Linux

Example license data:
<————– Start of License Data ———->
runtime5:qx_rt.r4_lnx;1234-5
<————– End of License Data ———->

  1. In the $QUERIXDIR directory, source the environment file ‘environ’.
  2. You will then be able to run the license program ‘licensegen’ (./licensegen).

The licensegen screen is displayed.

  1. To add a license into licensegen press the ‘I’ key.
  2. You will have 2 fields to fill in, ‘product name’ field and ‘serial code’ field. In the product name field you enter the first part of the license, this being the information before the ‘:’. In the case above this will be ‘runtime4’. The serial code field takes the information from the other side of the ‘:’. In the case above this will be ‘qx_rt.r4_lnx;1234-5’.
  3. Now press the esc or escape button to commit the license (the activation code field is not used yet).
  4. You can now activate the license. To do this press the ‘R’ key, this creates the file ‘qxlic.req’ in the $QUERIXDIR directory.
  5. Being careful not to disturb the information in the file copy it to an email and sent it to either new-license@querix.com (automatic activation service) or support@querix.com.

You will receive an email back containing license activation data. To activate your license you will need to:
NOTE: the activation data is an 8 letter code after the ‘:’ in the license string
<————– Start of License Data ———->
runtime5:qx_rt.r4_lnx;1234-5:abcdefgh
<————– End of License Data ———->

  1. Run licensegen as root.
  2. Using the cursor select the license you wish to activate and press the ‘A’ key.
  3. A box will appear with one empty field called ‘activation code’. The activation code is the eight letters at the end of the license string. In the case above this is ‘abcdefgh’.
  4. Once you have entered the activation code and checked it is correct press the esc or escape key.

You will now see a ‘Y’ next to the license in the ‘activated product’ column. This confirms the license is activated and ready to use.

If you did not manage to activate a license using the steps listed above.

  1. Run licensegen as root.
  2. Create a screenshot containing the licensegen window
  3. Send the screenshot to support@querix.com

The licensegen window should look like in the screenshot below, if a license has been activated correctly:

Hydra_OK_licgen

The licensegen window might look as follows, if there are some problems with the license activation:

Hydra_notOK_licgen
