Report Design perspective draft

Report Design perspective is a group of views and editors that allows creating data visualizations and fully-fledged interactive business reports.

Report Design perspective contains the tools needed for creating a report from scratch. As a result, you get a standard BIRT XML report file,  that can be deployed with the BIRT engine.

Report Design perspective includes 8 views and an editor:

Palette

contains standard report items you can add to your report by dragging and dropping

Data Explorer

shows data sources, data sets, and report parameters

Resource Explorer

allows viewing all the libraries within the resource folder

Navigator

allows navigating through your projects

Outline

allows exploring the structure of your report

Property Editor

allows changing appearance of the report items

Problems

displays warnings and errors encountered when building a project together with their relevant information (like resources, paths, and locations, etc.)

Error Log

captures warnings and errors logged by plug-ins

Report Design Editor

allows creating the BIRT reports and data visualizations, allows viewing the current report in Layout, Master Page, Script and XML Source layouts

When you open the Report Design perspective, the following views open automatically:

§      Palette, Data Explorer, Resource Explorer, Navigator, Outline and Property Editor are the views associated directly with the perspective,

§      Problems and Error Log are the general views.

The contents of the views associated with the Report Design perspective depends on the report that is currently active in the editor.
