Today, we are happy to announce the public beta release of LyciaStudio based on Eclipse Oxygen.

With Eclipse Oxygen, LyciaStudio has gained freedom over the perspective management – easily add, remove, and update any plugins available in Eclipse repository. Set up your own toolkit not being constrained by the default preset, which now includes the following perspectives:

  • 4GL
  • C/C++
  • CVS Repository Exploring
  • Debug
  • Git
  • Java
  • Java Browsing
  • JavaScript
  • Plug-in Development
  • Report Design
  • Resource
  • Team Synchronizing
  • XML

You are free to refine it further and compose a suite that meets your needs best.

Here is a short video that illustrates how to install additional software to LyciaStudio Oxygen. Lycia documentation will be updated with new instructions soon.

Additionally, LyciaStudio Oxygen introduces the support of Java 9 and forthcoming versions of Java.

Find details about many more interesting features of Eclipse Oxygen on the official Eclipse website.

The beta will be available for approximately two months, followed by the next major version of LyciaStudio. This period of time is a great opportunity for our clients to evaluate the updated IDE and help us make LyciaStudio so very much better.

With gratitude, we welcome any feedback, product suggestions, and bug reports for LyciaStudio Oxygen. We appreciate your contribution!

FAQ

Should I take any precautions before upgrading to LyciaStudio Oxygen?
You may want to create a backup copy of your workspace because workspace in Oxygen has a slightly different structure, which may produce warnings if opened back in regular LyciaStudio

Can I install Lycia Oxygen on the same machine with Lycia?
Yes, you can. Just make sure to choose a different installation directory and do not install app server and web server

Can I run LyciaStudio Oxygen and LyciaStudio in parallel on the same machine?
We do not recommend doing that as both IDE instances will be operating with the same app server which may cause conflicts

Will my existing workspaces work properly in LyciaStudio Oxygen?
Yes, your existing workspaces will work fine. But since in Oxygen a workspace has a slightly different structure, you may get warnings when opening that workspace back in regular LyciaStudio

How do I install additional perspectives in LyciaStudio Oxygen?
Run LyciaStudio and navigate to ‘Help’ -> ‘Install New Software’ in the main menu
